Be The Light

I recently wrapped up the recent final run of Daredevil. Nowadays, instead of sticking with original numbering of a series, as soon as author concludes his/her run a publisher will restart the numbering of a series with 1 in the hopes that new readers can attach to the series. They need to just stick to original numbering, it makes more sense for the hardcore collectors. None of this has anything to do with what I’m talking about but I love comic books.

In this issue of Daredevil, he is laying on the operating table fighting for his life. He is internally musing about why he should fight to live anyway: Kingpin is the mayor still, enemies are still gunning for him no matter what, and the fight is seemingly never ending: he is drowning in darkness and cannot see the light. He dies. But he comes back to life and he says something that I find incredible:

If you cannot see the light, then be the light.

Whoa. That hit me hard. I love that line. It made me think about how many lessons I’ve learned through comic books, which are many, but present day it made me think about how I am being a light in this time of darkness.

I don’t feel like I’m being enough of a light at work. I want to lead more and solve more problems/challenges. I want to know what I’m doing helps people. That’s something to work on.

I podcast with my friends Pat, Jarrod, and Jason with The Longbox Crusade and I am constantly surprised with the network we’re building there. It makes me feel good that people find joy in what we’re putting out there and I’m working hard to increase the bandwidth of our humble little show. We read the likes, shares, and retweets of the previous show on each podcasts and it makes me super proud to see that I have friends and family who are sharing the show. Mom messaged me and told me she listened to the show and it absolutely made my entire day.

I go to jiu-jitsu regularly. There are definitely self-benefits and challenges but in the space of this subject I try to take what I learn and share it with whomever I can. I humbly don’t know that much but anything I do know it’s because I was instructed well by not only my main instructors, first by Jason in Victoria and now Steve in Charlotte, but also the people under them who had been with them for years and showed me what they know (by kicking my ass lol, trust me, I need it!) I try to take what I know and share it with anyone who comes into class. I have a whole mountain load to learn so hopefully I can keep shining there and that small flashlight becomes a lighthouse one day.

If I know you, I’m going to do what I can to elevate you. I want to be a light in this world. Let’s shine together.
